A postcard from 1915

I bought this beautiful postcard, with a couple of others, at a car boot sale yesterday. It’s not in great condition, but I thought it was so pretty. The postmark on the back dates it to February, 1915. Printed on the back is the following:
This is a HAND-PAINTED REAL PHOTOGRAPH of a BRITISH Beauty.
MISS GLADYS COOPER
I bought the card because I was charmed by the picture, but when I got it home and read the back, it made me smile even more.
My Dearest Sis,
I suppose by this time you have got off with some of the soldiers at Frome or Westbury. If they were nice ones keep them till I come down, or tell them you have a nice sister that wants a young man.
Love From Your affectionate Sis
Hilda

My mom bought a couple of albums from an antiques fair, full of old postcards. It seems from the stories on the back that they were written between a man and woman who were having an illicit affair, and it was all written in a type of code – th elett ersw eres pac edo utli kethi sso itw asver ydiff icul ttor ead!But we managed to get our heads round it, and it is a fascinating read – a full album, and the postcards are from all different places. I think they are from a similar era to this one you’ve bought. I want to get it out and have a look again. I haven’t looked at the other two as yet, I have a feeling that they were just collected because they were pretty, as opposed to being of any significance!
