Letterbox Bid A Fond Farewell
A letterbox in Bristol that was scheduled by Royal Mail for removal has been given a warm and rather theatrical send-off , complete with flowers and poetry.
The letterbox in Bedminster, South Bristol has been earmarked for removal due to repeated vandalism and theft. But obviously there were some people in the local area who loved that letterbox.
After Royal Mail delivered a letter to local residents explaining their decision, the letterbox was anonymously decorated overnight.
For me, the best part was the snippet from a W H Auden poem, that read:
“And no one will hear the postman’s knock/ Without a quickening of the heart. For who can bear to feel himself forgotten?”
