What is Rescued Paper?
We all know that recycled paper is used paper that has been reprocessed into fresh new paper, but what about rescued paper?
Put simply, rescued paper is paper that has had one life but is retrieved and re-used without being processed into new paper. If you use a scrap of used paper to take a phone message on the clean side, then you’ve rescued that paper and squeezed an extra use out of it before it goes into the recycling!
Sukie are pioneers of rescued paper stationery – their clever rescued paper notebooks are made in India using all sorts of discarded paper – office paper, envelopes, packaging papers etc. The paper sheets are folded double so that any printed area is hidden, leaving blank paper pages to write on.
Recycled paper is obviously a great thing, but if we can squeeze an extra use out of used paper before it goes for recycling, then even better!
Anyone can rescue paper – from the smallest scrap to huge quantities. We’ve recently rescued literally a tonne of paper from a local printing firm which was closing down – they were planning to dump their entire paper stocks before we offered to take it! We’ve got lots of plans on what to do with all that lovely paper (watch this space…), and we’ve already given some of it away via Freecycle, to be used in children’s activity projects in our local area.

i’ve been re-using paper for more years than i like to count:
i’ve written six books – with many re-writes – and all drafts are written by hand and then typed into the computer. and any print out except the final one, is done on the backs of previous (unaccepted) mss. and any junk mail with blank backs.
In this country (Australia) real estate agents are the best suppliers: they never use the backs.
